No Recipe: Season 2
Last year, I ran a series of online cooking workshops that I’m ready to bring back for another round. They’re more like improv workshops than normal cooking classes; instead of copying a set of steps, you’re encouraged to explore your own tastes in the kitchen. Last year’s participants said that they “enjoyed the sense of community” and “learned to trust [their] instincts” and came away with more building blocks and basic templates that they would use in the future.
If this isn’t for you but you know someone who might like it, please forward!
What is it?
This is a workshop intended to make you better at cooking. It’s about trusting your senses and improvising with what you have, not about following a recipe step-by-step. If that seems scary, because you’re not “that kind of cook,” then this is probably meant for you.
I’ll guide you along the way, with ideas, recipe templates, and live help over Zoom. With a small group over a period of 3 consecutive Wednesday evenings, you’ll be learning from me and each other about how to follow your tastes towards what you want to eat. I want you to end up with a good dinner but also an appreciation for your own creativity with food.
What will happen?
I’ve chosen a type of dish to focus on each week and will send out a template recipe for it ahead of time. We’ll start each class by talking about some possibilities to spark your brain.
Then we’ll cook for an hour. I’ll leave my camera on, but you don’t have to. You can ask questions at any time or talk to me about what I’m doing.
At the end of the hour, we’ll show off what we made and talk about what worked or any issues that came up. If there are questions about a specific technique, I can try to demo it.
How do I prepare?
Just show up with a clean kitchen, a little bit of energy, and maybe a few ingredients that you think you’d like to incorporate. I’ll be sending a template recipe ahead of time that you can base your cooking on, or you can go completely off-script and make something the world has never seen before.
What’s the schedule?
